Susan Myers
Born in Camden, New Jersey, Myers came to Philadelphia in 1968 after sojourns in Massachusetts and Illinois, and almost immediately entered the Jewish community structure by joining American Jewish Congress. She led her AJC Chapter for several years, was elected President of the Women’s Division of the Pennsylvania Region, and became the first woman to lead the Region as its President. At the national organization she rose to Co-Chair of the Governing Council. In the Jewish Community Relations Council she chaired the Committee on Church-State Separation and Inter-Religious Affairs. At Congregation Adath Jeshurun Sue has served on the Board of Directors and has chaired the School Committee and the Social Action Committee. Working in cooperation with the Old York Road synagogues, she co-launched the northern suburbs Kosher Meals on Wheels program and served as its first President.
Myers lectures on world politics at community centers and at events by invitation, attracting large attentive audiences. Her engagement with civics had its inception during her education at Brandeis University, where she learned Constitutional Law and civil rights from such leaders as Profs. John Roche and Max Lerner and historian Abe Sachar. Her lectures are enriched from her travel on five continents and her breadth of study of communities and governments.
Myers has had one marriage, producing three children, who have provided four grandchildren (thus far) who vie with community service for her attention.
