JSPAN Social Justice Award Honoree Event - November 21, 2011 - Honoring Langer, Grogan & Diver, P.C.

On Monday, November 21, JSPAN honored the firm of Langer, Grogan & Diver, P.C. with the 2011 Social Justice Award, in recognition of their extraordinary contribution to law in the public interest and for the firm's determination to foster the same kind of life-long commitment among future generations of legal practitioners.

The firm has established the Langer, Grogan & Diver Fund for Social Justice, which supports public interest law in the Delaware Valley.  In 2009 the firm established the Langer, Grogan & Diver Fellowship in Social Justice at the Law School of the University of Pennsylvania.  The fellowship provides financial support to graduates in their first year of practice in the public interest.  The firm has also established a Philadelphia Fellow grant at HIAS and Council Migration Services of Philadelphia, which aides new immigrants through the handling of complex immigration cases.

The guest speaker for the evening's program was Ruth W. Messinger, President of American Jewish World Service.  The event took place at the Independence Visitor Center, 6th and Market Streets, in Philadelphia.  This year's Social Justice Award marked the seventh annual event in which JSPAN recognizes a local unsung hero in the cause of advancing social justice.
